September 3, 2019
Dear Parents,
Welcome to the new
school year! Our names are Tom Timmer and Trisha Wellock, and we are
excited to be your child’s teachers for sixth grade. The two of us are looking
forward to helping your child grow academically, socially and emotionally this
year. We hope the following information is helpful in getting the year
off to a good start.
Schedule
Mrs. Wellock is
teaching math and science while Mr. Timmer will be teaching language arts and
social studies. We have specials each day at 11:55 and lunch at 10:10. If
you drive your child in the morning, please be sure they arrive by 8:05.
If you are picking your child up after school, they will be dismissed from the
classroom at 3:00.
Communication/Assignment
Notebook
We have found that
correspondence via email is the most efficient means of communication with our
team. We usually check our email several times a day and will do our best
to respond as soon as possible. The two of us can be reached at the email
addresses listed at the end of this letter. Please feel free to contact
us with any questions or concerns at any time throughout the year; open
communication is extremely important to us. If you call, please do so during
our planning time (11:55 – 12:55). Calls or messages for students at other
times disrupt the learning environment.
We have a class
blog, https://wellocktimmer.blogspot.com and
use this as a means of daily communication with you. We do our best to
update our team’s page by 3:15 each school day with any homework or special
announcements.
We use My Grade Book
to communicate student progress and work completion. A My Grade Book form
will be sent home with logins and passwords.
Your child has been
given a student planner. Each school day we ask that he/she fills in each
subject section with daily assignments and take the notebook home nightly to
review with a parent. We feel this is an excellent way to keep you
informed of your child’s daily activities. Although homework is listed on
our blog, it is your child’s job to write all assignments in the planner.
We do our best to get the site updated at the end of each school day, but know
the daily homework is ultimately the responsibility of each child.
Snacks/Water Bottles
& Birthday Treats
We encourage all
students to bring a water bottle to school to keep in their locker. We
rotate/break many times throughout the day, so students will be able to go to
their locker/bathroom/drinking fountain during these breaks. Healthy
snacks are allowed in the morning, if you choose to send one.
Our team will be
celebrating birthdays as a group; therefore, if your child chooses to bring in
a birthday treat, she/he will need to bring in enough treats/napkins for about
60 people. Please choose treats that are easy to distribute and remember
napkins. Thanks!
Open House
Open House is
scheduled for Wednesday, September 4th. There
will be a “meet and greet” from 6:00 to 7:30 pm with a curriculum
presentation at 6:30. We are eager to meet our students’ families.
Your child will have the opportunity to give you a tour of our classrooms as
well as the Sixth Grade House. In addition, please look for sign-up
sheets and informational handouts during Open House.
Supplies
In the past students
have asked about appropriate school supplies. We have found that Trapper
Keepers are too large to fit in our desks, so we request that students do
not bring them to school. There is no required list of school
supplies, but if you choose to purchase back to school items, the following is
a list of suggested supplies:
· One large box of tissue to share
· One tub of disinfectant wipes to share
· 4 two-pocket folders, any color, any design
· One 1 ½ inch three-ring binders with five dividers
· One package of wide ruled notebook paper to share
· Pencils/pens
Student Information
It is very important
for us to get to know your child and open the doors of communication as soon as
possible. To better help us achieve these goals please complete the
student information form and have your child return them to us as soon as
possible.
We are committed to
providing your child with the best school year possible. We appreciate
your support and look forward to meeting you at Open House.
Sincerely,
Tom Timmer
Trisha Wellock
